This 3-dimensional drawing shows our local ethernet with its 5 computers of various kinds. The drawing has the walls, roof and floors removed to show the distribution of the machines on the three floors of the house. Sebastian's machine downstairs is temporarily removed while he's doing his apprenticeship in photography near Stavanger on the west coast.
The important bit is the 64K digital line coming in from the left. It's connected to a modem which in turn interfaces with the HP router. The line gives us a permanent 24-hour a day connection to the Internet. Mail comes through directly and with a small monitoring program an audio signal tells me that it's arrived. Talk sessions requested by users on any machine on the net with a "talk" facility will also sound.
